Hamer Pellet Fuel Company has advised that they are have difficulty getting the raw materials needed to make pellets.  The decline in availability of raw materials (saw dust and chips) is affecting most pellet producers. The reason for the lack of raw material is the severe decline in demand for hardwood boards and logs produced at North American saw mills driven in part by the ongoing China trade war and depressed domestic secondary manufacturing markets. Other industries outside of the pellet industry, who also use wood residuals to make their finished goods such as composite decking, trim, and charcoal, are also contributing to the reduced availability of raw material and increased cost.

In order to spread the limited supply as best we can, we are limiting our bulk sales to one ton per month for those who we consider regular customers.  We consider a regular Hamer customer to be one who has purchased a stove from us in 2018 or 2019 or someone who has purchased Hamer tonnage during 2019.  For all others, there will be a 5 or 10 bag/week limit, subject to availability.  When we run out of tonnage, regular customers will be placed on a waiting list for pick up from the next delivery. 

As an alternative, we have successfully tested and offer a softwood pellet, EasyBlaze.  The independent test reports show high BTU’s per pound and very low ash levels.  We are currently burning them in some appliances and are quite pleased with their performance.  Currently, we are not have trouble getting these and we impose no limits on these.
