This morning it was 40* at our showroom! Hard to believe for mid-October. Is this a harbinger of an early fall and a cold winter? We are seeing crickets trying desperately to get into our warehouse. Soon those stink bugs will be trying to make their annual pilgrimage into your home… The colder it gets outside, the more they want INSIDE!! Those nasty stink bugs are nesting!
For pellet stove owners, this can be a serious problem that can stop your pellet stoves blower cold. There is no easy solution to get rid of stink bugs around our homes, but we do have a few suggestions to help minimize the problem for your pellet stove. First, if you can reach the vent cap – cover it with a plastic bag tightly sealing around the pipe until you are ready to start using the appliance. This keeps them from dropping in and moving in. BUT – don’t forget to REMOVE THE PLASTIC BAG BEFORE STARTING UP THE STOVE!! Second option: as soon as you see those nasty stink bugs trying to get in at the door – start using your stove! By the time you see one in the front of your pellet stove burn pot – it is officially too late as you now have an entire colony of them living rent free in your stove…
Please take the time every 2-3 days to fire up your pellet stoves and let them burn for 15-20 minutes or so to heat up those chambers and keep the stink bugs from gathering and putting your motors at risk! The heat will kill any nasty bugs that are in the combustion blower and keeps your stove free to operate. A little bit of fire makes the new home surroundings of these guys offensive to them.
In years past, we have had several customers who have called to say that their combustion motors are jammed and will not work because the stink bugs have moved in and shut it down. The only remedy is to schedule us to come out to deep clean them away. And we are getting booked way out! Do yourself a favor and light up those pellet stoves today.
On a side note, we have tons and tons of excellent quality (and believe me, there is a huge difference in pellet quality out there) pellets in the yard ready for your winter heating needs.
